Love to travel? Well, credit card issuers now have the feature where you can get credit card miles whenever you use your card. Credit card companies felt the need of providing incentives to the travelers for repeatedly using the services of an airline, and in the process also promote their own credit card company.

Without even knowing it, you can increase the number of credit card miles whenever you make a purchase using your credit card. Based on how many points you accumulate or how many dollars you spend you can receive miles on your account. Every credit card miles program is different and some will give you one frequent flier mile per dollar or two you spend.

Check if your credit card already has a credit card miles program. If you have not had a chance to travel before you won’t have to worry because as long as you use your credit card you will eventually rack up enough credit card miles to redeem free flights. The airline market is too competitive and erratic. Credit card companies come out with different promotional schemes every other month to attract frequent fliers.

Keep in mind that the credit card miles program only covers the cost of the airline ticket. Any charges that are levied by the airline company are not covered but it all depends on the airline company. If the credit card does have a credit card miles program it is only for a single airline company. Those airline miles cannot be used for other airlines. In some cases the airline may not have flights to certain destination. If that happens you may need to buy the ticket instead of being able to use your frequent flier miles.

The Good & The Bad On Credit Card Miles

Credit card miles may sound wonderful but there are some things to keep in mind.

One thing to note is that you cannot redeem your miles for flights on specific dates. In other words, national holidays, state holidays, religious holidays, and others may not be covered under the mileage card. Each credit card miles program is different so double check the terms and conditions.

You will also need to check the interest rate on the card because depending on the airline card, it may have a higher interest / APR. Some of these programs also have annual credit card fees so it would be best to check.

Even with slightly higher interest charges and/or an annual fee on the credit card consumers that love to travel may still come out ahead.

Trading In Your Credit Card Miles

Get airline tickets when you see on your statement that you have enough miles. The number of miles to a certain destination is the “cost” for the flight. Suppose you have a balance that will cover only 400 miles whereas the total journey is of 600 miles, then the customer will have to pay for the remaining miles after deduction from the card.

In any case, the cost of tickets purchased with credit card miles is lot less than the usual cost of tickets. Check with airlines and credit card companies offer credit card miles. Compare the terms and conditions to reep the most benefit and you’ll be on your next free flight in no time.
